Managing Network Resources

As discussed earlier, in Chapter 3 Basic Linux Administration, networking is very important. Azure Virtual Network is an Azure service that provides the following:

• Connectivity to your workload
• Connectivity from your workload to the outside world
• Connectivity between VMs
• Other connectivity options, such as VPN tunnels
• Traffic filtering
• Advanced routing options, including BGP routes through a VPN tunnel

Virtual Network

In Azure, the most important component of virtual networking is the virtual network, or VNet for short. A virtual network is crucial as it provides a highly secure isolated environment for your VMs to run in.

The following process might appear a little confusing and lengthy, but the intent here is to make you understand the process and commands. Let's start with the creation of a virtual network:
