Enabling and configuring Gamification
Remember that gamification is defined as the use of game design elements in non-game contexts. In the previous section, we discussed badges, which are one of the most popular game design elements used in eLearning. In this section, we will discuss the use of points, which is another widely used game design element in online learning. The idea is quite simple: Captivate Prime awards points when various events occur, such as completing a specific number of courses per month, completing self-enrolled courses, or achieving a skill.
These points are visible on the leaderboard. Remember that the leaderboard is one of the pages available to learners. On this page, learners can review their own score and compare it to the scores of their colleagues. The goal is to promote positive competition among colleagues, which, in turn, increases learning and engagement.
