MDM is the very first part of the ideal system. Before talking about how the data is processed and used, it is logical to explain what form the data will take and how it will be managed. This is why we will explain the concept of MDM in a utopic system before discussing BRMS and BPM.
Data is the blood of information systems
Data is the most important component of any information system. Some people may even think they are purely about data since the very term “data” has been so hyped in the past decade.
Admittedly, it is hard to imagine an information system without at least one database to store the data, since it would mean there is no knowledge of any business event that stays there. It is possible to imagine some pieces of information that are completely transient and not stored, but a whole system made of such particular cases sounds impossible to fathom.
