I just wrapped up my first read through "Automotive Cybersecurity Engineering" by Dr Ahmad MK Masser... why did I say "first read through?" Well, because I intend to read this again a few times. I am not a 'car guy,' in fact, I just want a car that works... On the other hand, I am a 'computer guy' and given how these two worlds have merged in the last few decades, several concepts overlap by now in regards to cybersecurity. This book has opened my eyes to use-cases that I don't tend to think about. Even as a 20 year cybersecurity veteran, I can sometimes get into tunnel vision mode and develop an inability to think outside the box. A quick dive into a realm of cybersecurity that isn't my day to day is a 'welcomed distraction,' but one that will ultimately keep me sharp and hopefully rustle up a few out of the box ideas for problem solving. Great book.

Previously I had read several books on the topic of cybersecurity for the automotive world and I had never been completely satisfied with the content.I read this book with great interest and finally found a text really well written, easy to understand, that does not take anything for granted and that deals with the topic of cybersecurity from different points of view.Being a professional in the sector I found correspondence with several cases that I found myself dealing with with different OEMs and suppliers.I highly recommend this book both to all those who intend to approach the topic of automotive cybersecurity for the first time, and to those who have already had experience and want to quickly acquire further knowledge.My congratulations to the author!

This book helped me understand how to develop a practical approach to automotive cybersecurity engineering while leveraging an organization’s existing development and implementation processes. It also explained the purposes of automotive cybersecurity, some were obvious, others not so much.For example, a cyber attacker or hacker could attack and alter the vehicle while it is in operation which could cause injury or death to the driver, passengers, pedestrians or occupants of other vehicles. This presents a dire need for automotive cybersecurity engineers, processes and education.Finally, it introduced me to a whole world of cybersecurity engineering for automotive road vehicles with standards, systems, and frameworks like ISO/SAE 21434:2021 that I was not aware of prior to reading this book!

Automotive Cybersecurity Engineering Handbook: A roadmap to cyber-resilient vehicles is an indispensable resource for cybersecurity in modern vehicles.New automotive cybersecurity penetration testing standards have been added to the International Automotive Task Force's (IATF) 16949 certification requirements.These requirements impact both automotive manufacturers that already have the certification and even those that do not have the certification. Those manufacturers without certification have difficulty proving that they are adhering to the highest standards of production needed to meet the quality expectations of the automotive industry. Having an IATF certification now means that an organization conducts regularly scheduled penetration tests to strengthen its automotive cybersecurity. Additionally ,there is a severe talent shortage faced by the industry in meeting the demand for building cyber-resilient systems. This book gives detailed insight and operational tools to secure these systems.
