When using environment-based availability, a cloud provider expresses the availability of an elastic infrastructure or platform as a whole. Availability of an individual application component using this type of expression is not defined. By communicating availability in this way, a customer is better able to match how end users commonly express availability. An example of this is expressing the availability of an at-least-once provisioned component or virtual server and the ability to provide a replacement if the first element fails.
