NetFlow is an industry-standard for network traffic monitoring. Originally developed by Cisco, it has since become an industry standard. VMware supports IP Flow Information Export (IPFIX), which is similar to NetFlow and was originally based on NetFlow version 9. Although VMware refers to it as NetFlow version 10, it's basically IPFIX.
Once enabled, it can be used to capture IP traffic statistics from all of the interfaces where NetFlow is enabled, and send them as records to the NetFlow collector software.
