Using collections
There are as many "definite" solutions to the question of how to use collections as there are photography blogs on the internet, but few lines of thought stand out. One of the workflows I find interesting advocates using collections in a similar way we use filters.
The idea is that we import our photographs and create a collection set with a few collections inside that we can name, such as All Photos
, Picks
, and Final Selection
. The first collection inside that set contains all photographs from the said job. After we flag/rate our initial favorites, we add them by dragging and dropping them into another collection containing only these picks. The third collection is for the final selections. We can expand the number of these collections with another one for images that we want to use in our portfolio or that we want to print. Just as with all Lightroom functionality, it will strongly depend on our workflow.
