Distilling generative AI basics
Generative AI is part of a larger classification of AI. As alluded to earlier, AI has been around for a long time, but you’ve likely heard different terms being used like machine learning or deep learning, both of which are now classified, along with GenAI, under the AI classification.
Now, they have always been there under that term, but marketing has taken hold of these concepts that used to stand alone and applied the term “AI” to all of them in the hype that GenAI has brought into the public conscience. As with many crazes before it, the hype will die down, but these distinctions are worth knowing. Figure 14.1 shows the larger umbrella of AI using my favorite tool—the Venn diagram:
