Modeling the phone
As we have learned, there is never one way to approach any challenge. As such, there are many ways to attempt to design a phone case in Tinkercad. I find the most effective way to create the case is to actually model the phone we’ve just measured first. If we were working in a parametric CAD program, as discussed in Chapter 4, I would probably consider starting right with the case, but as Tinkercad’s tools and CSG features cater to modeling around shapes, that shape can be the device we wish to protect with our case design.
We can start by creating a new Tinkercad 3D design and bring a Hole Box shape onto the Workplane, as shown in Figure 20.2:

The model of our phone will later be used to cut the cavity in the case we are creating, which is why we are starting with a Hole shape rather than a Solid shape, though of course, it’s easy to toggle between these options, as...
