Adding tolerances to our designs

Now that we’ve learned about general tolerances for common printing techniques and material choices, we can compensate for these tolerances in our 3D models. This is an important step not only to create accurate models but also when creating multi-part models that must fit together. Let’s look at the considerations for such instances.

Types of fit

When creating successful multi-part models, the first step is to consider the type of fit we want between our parts, as shown in Figure 12.5:

The models shown in Figure 12.5 compare the three general types of fits when creating a multi-part design that has two or more parts fit together, such as the hole and peg shown in these images.
