Introduction


In this chapter, we will take a closer look at the additional management and features provided by VMM 2016. We will also cover the Windows Azure Pack (which is the replacement of the App Controller) that will allow you to manage clouds.

Note

Windows Azure Pack should not be confused with Azure Stack (see Chapter 1, VMM 2016 Architecture). Azure Pack supports new features of Windows Server 2016 like Shielded VMs and some features of SDNv2, and its life cycle was extended to 2027.

In this chapter, we will continue to learn more about VMM management capabilities, such as cluster OS rolling upgrade, live migration, availability options, checkpoints, and virtual Non-Uniform Memory Access (NUMA).
