In this chapter, we saw how we can troubleshoot some RMAN-related issues and also took a glance at the factors which can affect its performance. As with any performance or troubleshooting activity, there is no defined way to do either of them. At times, even some basic things such as doing numerous backup jobs at the same time or scheduling the backup job when your database's workload is at its peak can make RMAN work slowly.

On the other hand, there can be more crucial issues, for example, slow hardware or a nasty bug which might be affecting performance. The same goes for troubleshooting. So the next time you are trying to make RMAN perform faster or are solving a failed backup job, try to look at the areas mentioned in this chapter.
