Implementing and managing text messaging

So, you want to text your customers? Well, welcome to a very complicated process. But have no fear, we can accomplish all necessary steps through Marc Benioff. Please note that if you are exploring text messaging, you will need to leverage a marketing platform technology. Salesforce of course has two products in that arena that you can choose from: Marketing Cloud (B2B) and Pardot/Marketing Cloud Engagement (B2C). Text messaging from Salesforce is exclusively sold through Marketing Cloud, but some SMS providers can be connected to Pardot for basic functions. If you do not have a marketing solution in your environment, you will want to do an evaluation of that first. For the purposes of this chapter, we are going to assume that you have Marketing Cloud and are ready to venture into SMS. Here is a high-level view of the overall process for text messaging:

  • Initial decision: Push text messaging or two-way messaging
