Temporary solutions can be great, and necessary, depending on the situation you've found yourself in.
For example, if you've found yourself being awoken by an alarm at 5:00, informing you that a disk only has about 10% of disk space left available, you might decide to invoke a temporary fix:
- You've troubleshooted and determined that the disk is filling up at a rate of a gigabyte an hour, meaning it'll be full in an hour and a half
- You've also determined that the LVM setup on the box has 10 GB of free space available to you, to grow your logical volume
- You check to make sure the problem isn't caused by a more significant issue (the site being down) and realize it's just a noisy log because of Christmas sales
- You apply 50% of the free LVM space to your logical volume, and go back to bed
This is a good...
