Consuming RESTful services using native HTTP(S) client libraries

We live in an interconnected world! A lot of applications now have to exchange data with remote systems. One of the most commonly used and powerful mechanisms to define a communication interface between software over the Internet are RESTful web services (more information about REST and RESTful interfaces will be provided in Chapter 6, Put Delphi on the Server, in the recipe Implementing a RESTful interface using WebBroker). Usually in Delphi, you can use the INDY suite to access HTTP servers. When dealing with HTTPS, INDY produces some headaches because it doesn't use the same SSL layer of the operating systems, but relies on OpenSSL libraries, so you have to provide a specific version of OpenSSL for each different OS your application supports and you cannot benefit from the security updates from the OSes vendor.
