Configuring Microsoft Defender SmartScreen
Microsoft Defender SmartScreen is a feature that primarily protects against internet websites, downloads, and applications that could engage in sophisticated phishing or malware attacks or blocking of unwanted applications. It does not protect against malicious files that are stored on-premises or within network shares.
Microsoft Defender SmartScreen works by validating the reputation, digital signature, and additional checks done by a Microsoft cloud service. If the file has not been run before or has no prior reputation, the user may be warned that the file has no history and asks whether the app should run or be blocked. Utilizing enterprise-grade controls, you can orchestrate how this feature works in your environment.
