Having a strong knowledge of your AWS inventory enables waste reduction efforts because many teams are often overwhelmed with not knowing what they own. You cannot optimize if you don’t know what to optimize. A central FinOps function such as a CCOE can be the enabler that encourages teams to take ownership of their resources while maintaining a high-level view of all the organization’s resources themselves. We looked at several tools that AWS provides to help with inventory management in the previous chapter.
