Using Block Libraries

What is a Block Library? A Block Library is a single file or folder that contains a collection of standard blocks for your organization. Most users will want to organize these blocks into a single file or folder structure using specific categories to make them easier to find and use. Using a single file is a very efficient way to store similar blocks for easy retrieval by users in the organization.

The single block library file contains individual blocks based on block type. Block files are not different from other drawing files except how they are used. The blocks in this file can contain a graphic image of the block, a block description, the date the block was created, and when the block was last modified.This file can also contain specific instructions for using blocks when needed.

Creating block libraries

First, let’s look at how to create a new Block Library:

1. Open the 7-1_Furniture Block Library.dwg file.
2. Using the In-Canvas View...
