Working with reference files
This section will discuss working with various commands to simplify and automate your reference file commands.
Attach or Overlay?
One of the first issues to fully understand is the difference between attaching a reference file and overlaying a reference file.
Attach
When you attach a reference file, this attachment will be visible to anyone who uses your current drawing file as a reference. All “attached” references are automatically inherited for any subsequent attachments; they are permanently visible. Other users will not be able to detach it since you “attached” it as a permanent attachment using the ATTACH method and it is automatically inherited.
Overlay
When you overlay a reference file, the attachment will not be visible to anyone who uses your current drawing file as a reference and it is not inherited automatically. All overlays are forgotten for subsequent reference attachments.
