Adding a storage provider
If you have a VASA capable array, then you can add a VASA provider to the vCenter Server so that it can generate array capabilities for each LUN/datastore. A capability generated by the provider is called a system storage capability.
To check whether the array used in your environment is VASA capable, use the VMware Compatibility Guide available at http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php?deviceCategory=vasa.
The P4000 VSA used in the lab for this book, is VASA capable. In this recipe we will learn how to add a storage provider corresponding to the array to the vCenter Server.
Getting ready
Since we are using a HP P4000 VSA, you will need a storage provider server configured with HP Insight Control for Storage installed. Since the installation instructions are beyond the scope of this book, we assume that the insight control for storage is installed and configured correctly. For storage provider-specific instructions, refer the vendor documentation.
