VMware VSAN
The preceding discussion applies to a classic physical array. Let's take a look at distributed storage. By distributed storage, we mean a storage architecture that uses local disks from servers to form virtual shared storage. There is no physical storage anymore. There are multiple ways to achieve this, and there are enough differences among the distributed storage products.
The differences result in different approaches for performance and capacity management. In this book, we will cover VMware Virtual SAN (VSAN). You should not assume that you can apply the solution here to monitor other distributed storage products. Even within VSAN, there are differences in monitoring a hybrid VSAN and all-flash VSAN.

Read Chapter 16, VMware Virtual SAN Diagnostics and Troubleshooting Reference Manual by Cormac Hogan (http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/products/vsan/VSAN-Troubleshooting-Reference-Manual.pdf).
Let's see how monitoring VSAN differs from monitoring classic storage....
