Using the default brushes

There are a variety of brush tips and textures: hard, medium, and soft brushes, ink pen, airbrush, charcoal, paintbrush, and more. We will cover a variety of default brushes to experiment with mark-making and drawing and get a feel for how each brush interacts with the canvas (layer). See Figure 7.9.

This is a good chapter for beginners, as we will use the brushes for a variety of tasks and projects throughout the book. As we cover topics such as editing the default brushes, managing brushes, and editing the default brushes with custom Dynamics throughout this chapter, the brushes, and how to use them, will make more sense. I encourage you to experiment on your own, but learn how to use the default brushes first; specifically, the basic Hard Round brush and the Soft Round brushes, and gradually expand from there.
