Introducing software and solution architecture
The terms “software architecture” and “solution architecture” often stir up some confusion, partly because their scopes overlap in the realms of software development and IT project planning, as shown in Figure 18.1:

Both software architecture and solution architecture are necessary for the success of a .NET project, but they focus on different aspects of the planning and design process. Let’s look at each one in turn, before going into more detail on both.
Software architecture
Software architecture is primarily concerned with the structure and design of software systems. It involves defining a solution to meet all the technical and operational requirements while optimizing common quality attributes, such as performance, security, and manageability.
