Unioning an arch
A great way to speed up your building and solid modeling process is to build the shape that you want to cut out separately from the part that you’re cutting from. This recipe will demonstrate a way of mastering this technique by first building a wall, and then building the arched shape of the separate entrance. We will then use the Negate and Union functions to carve our desired shape. Let’s see how we can do so next.
How to do it…
We will create a flat wall and then create the shape of the arch entrance using a square and cylinder part, rescaling the parts to extend them through both sides of the wall. Then, we will negate the entrance parts and union them into the wall, giving us our arch. To do so, follow these steps:
- Begin by inserting a square block part into the baseplate.
- Rescale the square part to be roughly

studs. This will be the wall that we will cut the archway into. - Next, duplicate the wall...
