Achieving continuous improvements (Kaizen)
This topic is conceptually tricky to implement, and I believe some analysts oversimplify what it takes to continuously improve performances and capabilities within an organization. The primary point to be made in this section is that Scrum and Lean-Agile teams build upon "good practices" to implement better practices over time, or at least to improve upon good practices in terms of supporting current business, development, and operational needs.
The term "best practices" has fallen out of favor in the software industry because of the implication that there is only one right way to do things, and that those so-called "best practices" cannot be improved upon. As noted previously in the sections on Seeking perfection, perfection is never actually achieved, even though it's always the desired goal. But building a foundation on good practices is not only possible – it's desirable.
