Introduction
In a datacenter, you will sometimes end up with non-domain attached servers that you need to provide a supported restore scenario for. System Center Data Protection Manager 2012 R2 will provide you with two different scenarios to leverage:
- Workgroup protection
- Certificate-based authentication
Workgroup protection is a simpler approach. This is suitable for scenarios where you need a quick and simple approach regarding simple non-clustered environments with a low security demand for a workgroup attached server.
Certificate-based authentication will be more suitable in the scenario where you need to provide a restore service for a nontrusted domain with higher security demands.
In this chapter, we will cover how to protect workgroup servers either via NTLM authentication or via certificate-based authentication, which is also known as CBA.
