Describe the Microsoft 365 Defender portal
In Chapter 11, Describing the Security Capabilities of Microsoft Sentinel, we described the various solutions that create Microsoft's Extended Detection and Response (XDR) capabilities within Microsoft 365 Defender. This chapter will describe how the Microsoft 365 Defender portal is used to manage security posture, review the various reports and dashboards, and respond to incidents. Let's start by reviewing the various areas of the Microsoft 365 Defender portal and accessing the Microsoft Defender solutions.
To access the Microsoft 365 Defender portal, navigate to https://security.microsoft.com.
When the Microsoft 365 Defender portal opens, you may be prompted for a quick guided tour of the portal, as shown in Figure 12.1:
