Technical requirements

The technical requirements for this chapter are as follows:

  • Minimum: Should be a computing device with either amd64 (x86_64/64-bit) or i386 (x86/32-bit) architectures. Kali recommends the amd64 option. The system should contain at least 2 GB of RAM and 20 GB of disk space. However, some of the tools contained within Kali Linux tend to be resource hogs; Burp Suite is famous for this. The Kali installation page at https://www.kali.org/docs/installation/hard-disk-install/ recommends as much as 8 GB of RAM if you intend to use such applications.
  • Recommended: It is suggested by practitioners in the cybersecurity field state that you should aim for the amd64 (x86_64/64-bit) architecture with 8 GB of RAM – even more RAM if available – as well as up to 200 GB of disk space.
