In this chapter, we took took quite an in-depth look into the world of IPv4, and IPv6. In addition to this, we covered subnet masks and ways to identify a subnet mask. Next, we covered subnetting. We worked through a few examples and illustrated the techniques to derive the required number of hosts and also the required number of subnets. Finally, we worked with well-known protocols. We covered some of the most widely-used protocols and their port numbers.
In the next chapter, we will move on to network configuration and troubleshooting. We will work on the Linux boxes, assigning IPv4 addresses and also IPv6 addresses, looking at various ways of troubleshooting network connectivity.
