Creating a cartoon illustration
By "cartoon" illustration, I'm not just referring to comics such as Mickey Mouse, Erma, or One Piece, but more of a type of style in which the heavy lifting is done in the inking stage. In the cartoon style, things such as brushstrokes or color variations come second.
The steps for cartoon illustrations are simple:
- Inking
- Flatting
- Coloring
We will start with the inking part. As you will see, it will be pretty easy once you have created the tight pencil work. Inking purists may disagree with me.
For the cartoon illustration, I recommend using this setup:

Color Set is nested inside Color Wheel, and the Layer Property palette is nested inside the Layer palette. In this way, you can do most of the operations we will do within a really compact space.
