Preparing the target system

With all files backed up and converted, you can now start preparing the target system. Let's assume you're going to migrate from your current Cacti system to a Windows system. In Chapter 1, Installing Cacti you have learned about the BSOD2600 Windows Installer from the Cacti forum. By using this installer, you will have everything set on the new system for the migration to take place.

Restoring the Cacti files

The first step of the migration is to copy over the Cacti files and database backups. As the Linux backup is using TAR, you should install and use the 7Zip application to extract the files from the archive.

Note

The 7Zip archive tool is open source software and distributed under the GNU LGPL. You can use this tool on any computer, including systems in a commercial organization, without paying any license fees.  7Zip is available from the following link: http://www.7-zip.org/download.html
