As you can see by now, Route 53 is quite a powerful service, but even with the most powerful service, we have the responsibility to make sure our DNS records are designed in the best possible way so they are secure and correct. Here are some best practices to follow when designing domains with Route 53:
- Enable domain auto renew to ensure your domain is automatically renewed
- Enable privacy protection for domains that require the contact information to be kept private and secure
- Do not enter private records into public zones
- Monitor Route 53 configuration changes to detect any rogue entries or actions
- Enable domain transfer lock, which can prevent your domain from being hijacked
