Formatting text attributes

Changing the appearance of text is something that you will do often in InDesign. When text is selected, the Properties panel displays an extensive list of options to change the font, size, color, leading, paragraph alignment, and much more.

  1. We’ll improve legibility and text fitting across the pages we placed (threaded) the text. Return to Page 1. Click anywhere in the first text frame at the top of Page 1 with the Text tool (T) Select All from the Edit menu. This selects all the text in the text thread across all pages.
  2. Head over to the Properties panel. Let’s make the following text attribute changes. Under Character, change the font to Myriad Pro and the weight to Condensed. Set the text size to 30 pt and the leading to 48 pt.
  3. Under the Paragraph subset on the Properties panel, choose the fourth icon Hyphenation checkbox to prevent unsightly line breaks.
