I've spent a few days working my way through Margarida Barreto's incredible book titled "The Midjourney Expedition." I'm really impressed with the depth of information that's provided in an easy-to-understand format and language. It hits that sweet spot of intense knowledge, yet digestible.From the very beginning of the book, I was hooked learning about the background of Artificial Intelligence and the path that has gotten us to today. I loosely knew about the technology that I've been using, but I appreciated the history lesson and breakdown of models.If you're brand new to generative AI or a seasoned pro, you're going to appreciate this book. Margarida walks you through setting up Midjourney through Discord and the basics of using the platform. Even though there are advancements and ease in using the tool through the new website, I would say that learning these basics and knowing how to prompt properly are going to pay off in your exploration of the tool.Once Midjourney is operational, the book walks you through the features and functionalities of the tool along with information about past model versions. Starting with teaching you the basics of constructing a prompt, from subject to setting, it then goes on to explain parameters used to elevate your image and provide structure to your prompt. There are images to walk you through all of these steps, including steps to alter your image after it renders, such as zoom, pan, vary, remix, and upscale. In addition, there's information about getting set up on the Midjourney Alpha website if you qualify.For advanced users, Margarida has graciously provided information about / commands, seeds, image weights, and permutations, in addition to blend mode, image prompting, and multi-prompting. This book really has it all, from the basics to fine-tuning your output. I'm in awe of the amount of work that went into this. Thank you, Margarida!I'm still working my way through the book, but I can see it being used quite often in the future for reference. I'm a big fan of the format, information, and incredible imagery.

Personally I am not a big reader of books, but because of my desire to develop higher level imagery using Midjourney, I had to get a copy to expand my capabilities. Margarida has taken the time to not only create an easy-to-follow guide for this amazing tool, but she's also offered an outline of how AI began and how it is impacting our world.This is a must read for anyone who is either a beginner or advanced user of Midjourney. It's filled with information but also has sample images that clearly show you the outcomes of the prompts she teaches along the way.
