Designing the frame
Whenever you start a complex multi-part project like this one, it’s always a good idea to plan out your designs before diving in. As discussed earlier in Chapter 2, this can be done through a variety of brainstorming and sketching techniques, with the most advanced option being to create a technical drawing like the one shown in Figure 19.1:

The drawing shown in Figure 19.1 is of the catapult we will make in this chapter. While this drawing was generated digitally, you could also sketch one by hand, which is sometimes quicker and more effective when you’re planning your initial ideas. This drawing allows us to organize important dimensions, as well as get a sense of what this project entails as we can see the different parts and how they will fit together from orthographic and isometric perspectives.
