Chapter 7: Making Eyeballs
Characters are really fun to sculpt, but they look strange without eyes! As humans, we relate to living things through their eyes. This makes us hyper-aware of any problems with the eyes. As sculptors, we need to give the eyes extra attention because messed-up eyes can make our sculptures look uncanny or lifeless.
There are many ways to do eyes depending on the goal of the project. If our goal is simply to finish a sculpture as quickly as possible, we can sculpt the eyes as if they are made out of clay. We provided a set of high-quality sculpted eyes along with our example files in Chapter 3, Sculpting a Simple Character Head with Basic Brushes, but we'll see how to make our own in this chapter. If our goal is to make realistically rendered eyes, then we'll need to add color and materials to the eyes, so they reflect light correctly. We'll take a look at how to add some color to the eyes, so they are a little more interesting to look at...
