What Are OT and IoT?

First, let’s take a high-level look at all the sub-functions that should be addressed as part of OT & IoT. The following image captures much of what the OT & IoT function entails..

As we have gone through the book, we have focused on everything related to Information Technology (IT) from a cybersecurity perspective. As a reminder, IT is everything used to process digital data within the organization. This is all the technology you are familiar with today as you complete your everyday tasks at work. Some examples of IT include:

  • Laptops, tablets, and PCs
  • Mobile phones and corporate phone systems
  • Cloud systems and infrastructure such as servers
  • Physical data centers and equipment
  • Networks such as firewalls, switches, and Wi-Fi
  • Web applications and business software
  • Databases, data warehouses, and data lakes
