It would be fair to say I would not be where I am now/today without network automation. I was not the first person on the “automate everything” bus, though. I fully admit I was late to the game, or so I felt back in 2014. Since starting in networking in 2008, a number of people have said how they could automate many of their daily tasks, but yet, my ego said my CLI was still better. What held me back? Mostly fear, failure, and not knowing where to begin. It wasn’t until the summer of 2014 that I rolled up my sleeves and said, I am going to master this now.
