Time for action—using EQ

We are going to use EQ to try and make our sound sample a bit sweeter:

  1. Turn the FX channel for the SampleBreak on, and turn the Kick FX Channel off.
  2. Listen to Sample Break.
  3. On the Sample Break FX Channel, add this EQ: LADSPA Effect: C* Eq2x2 — stereo 10-band equalizer
  4. Open the Control Panel. You will see rows of knobs:

  5. Press play in the Song Editor.
  6. While the SampleBreak is playing, turn each knob of the plugin controls. Listen to how it changes the timbre of the sound.
  7. Use the setting, shown in the following screenshot, for the Eq2x2:

  8. Turn the plugin on and off while the song is playing to get an idea of how the EQ is affecting the sound of the SampleBreak.
  9. Now turn the other channels in the FX Mixer on and off to get an idea of how the SampleBreak fits with the rest of the mix.
  10. Make your own adjustments to the EQ settings, and turn the rest of the FX channels on in the mixer.

What just happened?

We just used equalization to help shape the timbre of a sound.
