Visualforce e-mail templates


The Force.com platform provides the ability for creating and using e-mail templates, which includes merging fields and personalizing content. There are four different types of e-mail templates.

  • Text

  • HTML (using Letterhead)

  • Custom (without using Letterhead)

  • Visualforce

You can use all these e-mail templates while sending a single e-mail. But for mass e-mails, you can only use Text, HTML, and Custom templates. In this section, we are going to discuss the Visualforce template. The Visualforce e-mail template reduces a considerable amount of code which is needed for sending an e-mail.

At the beginning of the chapter, you heard about merging fields and personalizing content. How can this be done? You can use merge fields to personalize your e-mail content. You can add a substitute text to any merge field. The substitute text is displayed only if the merge record does not contain the data for that field.
