The following factors related to people can significantly help enterprises to enhance agility.
Psychological safety
People feel "safe" in the work environment when they are able to express themselves freely, that is, without fear of being judged. This includes expressing new ideas, disagreements, and alternative points of view. People are not afraid to be vulnerable, even in presence of their "bosses," and therefore become more open to expression, when they feel safe.
Safety increases creativity, teamwork, and engagement, which are huge enablers for self-organization and effectively responding to change, thereby helping to enhance agility.
According to a survey of Google employees, which was carried out to find out what makes teams effective, the number one factor identified was psychological safety. Google has defined this as "can we take risks on this team without them feeling insecure or embarrassed." [xiii]
