Summary
An entity is something that you need to store information about. Entities describe the objects, people, and processes of our everyday life. Entities are related. An ERD shows the entities of interest to our database and their relationships. In that way, an ERD reflects how we organized our processes. It gives us insight into those processes and, by doing so, also into our database.
In this chapter, you learned how to create an ERD from a generic description of a process.
The next chapter will add more detail to the initial database design you created in drawing the ERD.
