Unique Data IP Is Your Magic
One of the first global data capabilities implemented at Microsoft was not even a data platform solution back then, but a mixture of a data sandbox and data warehousing solution named “Magic Reports.” It had several Data Quality (DQ) scans and analytical reports to spot various issues across the ingested and on-boarded datasets and provided a set of simple dashboards to monitor the most essential KPIs – mostly about the accuracy of the revenue attainment and landing of it on correct accounts, customer DQ and completeness, and a few other things.
As we evolved, this solution evolved too. It was re-engineered and redesigned completely to become our data innovation and operations platform, aka the data management sandbox, and was eventually uplifted and integrated into the enterprise data mesh. We will cover this properly in Chapter 10.
But for now, let’s think about that intriguing yet straight-to-the-point part of the name...
