Validating and enhancing a conceptual data model
The conceptual data model is a working model for the project and is continually enhanced until it morphs into a physical model. This ensures that the model is continually reviewed and validated throughout the process, and mapped back to the business requirements. This constant morphing caters for iterative development.
Getting ready
Gather the blueprint document from Chapter 5, The Blueprint. Identify all the source systems and set up sessions with the process (person or people responsible for a business process), system (person or people responsible for a business system, for example, Enterprise Resource Planning or Customer Relationship Management system) or entity owners (person or people responsible for business information, for example, customer master or product master). The agenda for these sessions is to review the key business information identified in each of the business processes for the specific source systems.
