Summary
In this chapter, we learned that the BeagleBone is capable of doing much more than just monitoring a few contacts and turning on some flashing lights and what not.
The system is also capable of monitoring the network that it is attached to for signs of intruders, or just the general health of the system.
There are a number of other intrusion detection programs available such as Wireshark, Nmap, and Nagios. With the exception of Nagios, which uses a web interface, all the others require a computer monitor, mouse, and keyboard to operate.
With your system, you can monitor things with only a simple terminal program such as Putty and your smart phone, laptop, or tablet.
In the next chapter, we will see how you can keep an eye on things while away from home.
