Mapping people, work, time, and outcomes

Jira Align provides a holistic view of how people engage in work over periods of time in order to achieve outcomes. These four dimensions are key to planning and alignment and play a significant role in business agility. While the teams continue their work in the best-of-breed Jira Software, Jira Align connects team-level execution with top-level strategy.

There are a number of ways in which team-level work can be organized in Jira. Keep in mind that a project in Jira represents a container for work items and is hence analogous to a backlog. Also note that there is not a team entity in Jira's database. Therefore, Jira Align will derive teams based on Jira project/board combinations. Here are the two top options for mapping projects/boards in Jira to teams in Jira Align:

  • One Jira project per team of teams, one board per team, and one active sprint per board. This option requires a custom team field in Jira to drive each board...
