List functions

A list in Sass can be any comma- or space-separated list of values. In this recipe, you will learn how to use lists in your code with the built-in list functions.

Getting ready

Read the Writing mixins with arguments recipe of Chapter 3, Variables, Mixins, and Functions first if you have not already done so. Install Ruby Sass to compile your SCSS code on the command line. Read the Installing Sass for command line usage recipe of Chapter 1, Getting Started with Sass, to find out how to install Ruby Sass.

How to do it...

Here are the steps showing implementation of list functions:

1. Create a Sass template called listexample.scss, which will contain the following CSS code:

    // scss-lint:disable PropertySpelling
   
   @mixin list($values...) {
     number: length($values);
     last: nth($values, length($values));
     values: $values;
   }
   
   .list1 {
     @include list(value1);
   }
   
   .list2 {
     @include list(value1, value2, value3);
   }
