Foundational IA
It's impossible to talk about UX and technology and not talk about IA, but if we talk about it only from a technology this perspective, we create a very narrow understanding of it. For example, here is how Wikipedia defines IA:
"Information architecture (IA) is the structural design of shared information environments; the art and science of organizing and labeling websites, intranets, online communities and software to support usability and findability; and an emerging community of practice focused on bringing principles of design and architecture to the digital landscape."
While this definition is accurate in terms of technology, it is not the whole picture. When you expand this definition, you find that IA has been around much longer. In fact, a more accurate definition of IA comes not from technology, but from architecture (the kind that builds buildings).
