Building the application component focused metamodel
In Chapter 1, Enterprise Architecture and Its Practicality, we talked about metamodels in general and focused metamodels specifically. We explained that metamodels are the blueprints that guide the development of architectural artifacts such as diagrams. We developed our first diagram in the previous chapter without a metamodel, but that is because we were referring to the ArchiMate® 3.1 metamodels without telling you, to avoid confusing you at the time. But now, since you have more experience in developing diagrams, we feel more confident talking about metamodels and will show you how to create focused metamodels that are easier to understand and follow than the standard ones.
Focused metamodels are our interpretation of ArchiMate®'s standard metamodels. ArchiMate® metamodels are great references, but they are organized by layer. To get the full picture of an element and to find all possible relationships...
