An AD environment with replication issues is a disaster; it can cause all sorts of problems. AD uses a multi-master database. A change made on one domain controller should be advertised to other domain controllers to maintain consistency. The two types of replication in an AD environment are as follows:
- Intra-site replication: Replication between domain controllers in the same AD site
- Inter-site replication: Replication between domain controllers in different AD sites
